There are not many games that are classified in horror atmosphere and tension with Amnesia - The Dark Descent can measure. Two little-known secrets are therefore each set to the heart, the good will like the creeps, as in the top of the class.
Dark Corners of the Earth: The Call of Cthulhu
2005 was the Head First Productions task to the horror of HP Lovecraf t and his Cthulhu Mythos implement in a computer game. The result can be described as impressive, for never before has a game in such items, places and people from Lovecraft's stories are united in many. The story revolves around the remote fishing village of Innsmouth , where the private investigator Jack Walters missed some people to detect. In the course of action is clear that sinister things at work, where the Great Old Ones their slimy hands on it themselves.
The initial atmosphere in Call of Cthulhu may well compete with that of Amnesia. The Adventure-style must Walters notes, in collaboration, the dark figures slip past and the mystery on the track happen. The game places great emphasis on a realistic representation of the impressions which Walters experiences on his journey. Fast camera pans around can blur the image and facial injuries also directly affect the viewing area on. These effects are beginning atmospheric, nerves later in the game but also increasing. What is even more annoying, however: The game evolved from the initially very exciting adventure to a pure shooter. Because at some point connect riddles and hints in the background and there is only so many of Lovecraft's creatures as possible to shoot over the crowd somehow - disappointing.
Of the wild shootings aside, is Head First Productions with The Call of Cthulhu very solid and worth playing Lovecraft achieved an implementation. The game should have two more titles about Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos follow initially, because of difficulties which have been canceled, however, financial
